Southern Wind SW108-03 “Kalantis”

Designer: Farr Yacht Design / Nauta Design
Builder: Southern Wind Shipyard, Cape Town

Vessel Overview

The Southern Wind SW108-03 Kalantis represents a significant evolution within the SW108 Smart Custom range, combining cutting-edge performance with highly personalised design and onboard versatility. Conceived for an experienced and performance-driven owner, Kalantis is designed to excel in both superyacht racing and high-speed global cruising, while offering exceptional onboard comfort for extended stays.

Built entirely in advanced carbon composite construction, including hull, deck, and bulkheads, and paired with a high modulus carbon rig and lifting keel, Kalantis achieves a light displacement of just 74.2 tonnes—delivering impressive sailing performance without compromising luxury.

A defining feature of Kalantis is her innovative aft deck “Seaside Lounge”, a transformative space that creates a seamless connection between the yacht and the ocean. The expandable swim platform and transom system can be configured in multiple ways—featuring sunbeds, L-shaped seating, or a relaxed lounge environment—offering a highly versatile outdoor living space. This area can also be fully stowed to maintain the yacht’s clean, performance-oriented lines when under sail.

Jo Fensham Contribution

For Kalantis, Jo Fensham Yacht Upholstery supplied the full exterior upholstery package, with a particular focus on the yacht’s signature aft deck and Seaside Lounge area.

This included:

  • Custom cockpit seating and cushions, engineered for durability and comfort in offshore conditions
  • The bespoke sofa and lounge upholstery within the aft Seaside Lounge, designed to integrate seamlessly with the transforming swim platform configuration
  • Sunpads and modular exterior cushions, tailored to the yacht’s adaptable deck layout
  • Selection and application of premium marine-grade fabrics and high-performance foams, ensuring UV resistance, longevity, and aesthetic refinement

Working closely with Southern Wind’s design and build teams, Jo Fensham developed tailored upholstery solutions that enhance both the functionality and visual impact of this unique outdoor space. Every element was carefully considered to support the yacht’s dual-purpose brief—delivering comfort at anchor while maintaining resilience and performance at sea.
