Tariq Fensham is the Managing Director of Jo Fensham Yacht Upholstery and the second-generation leader of this pioneering Cape Town business. With a background in architecture, a lifelong love of textiles, and a deep understanding of design, Tariq brings a rare combination of creativity, precision, and strategic insight to the marine interiors industry.
Born and raised in Cape Town, Tariq studied architecture and spent the early part of her career working on high-end commercial projects both locally and in the United Kingdom—contributing to the design of shopping centres, office buildings, and British Airways business lounges. Alongside her architectural career, she nurtured her long-held passion for sewing, designing and stitching her own clothing from a young age.
In 2011, she joined her mother Jo in the upholstery business, and by 2015, took over the company full-time after Jo’s retirement. With strong leadership and vision, Tariq modernised the company’s processes, investing in technology like CNC cutting and digital scanning while preserving the bespoke, handcrafted approach that defines the brand.
Under her direction, the business has expanded significantly—doubling its workforce, moving to larger premises, and taking on major international clients. Tariq has built lasting partnerships with South Africa’s top yacht builders and is recognised as one of the few women leaders in the South African boatbuilding supply sector. More than a business leader, Tariq is a mentor and role model for her team. She is passionate about craftsmanship, innovation, and nurturing talent. Her work has helped position Jo Fensham Yacht Upholstery as a trusted, world-class supplier in one of the most demanding industries on the planet.
